On Temporary Hiatus as of the end of December '10

As I make the move from New York State back to California. I moved back here in '92 figuring to be here a year or two,  and here it is 2010 and I'm still here. I tell my friends that NY is like quicksand, easy to get in, hard to get out. But due to personal illness, family problems, and a growing hatred of the winters and cold snowy weather, it's finally time to make the move back. Better late than never. Of course part of the reason I've stayed so long is that I was lucky enough to begin working with Rascal, so far staying with them 13 years, actually I'm in the 13th now. In sales it's rare to find an honest company, a company with a good product, a company with an attitude that the customer is important, an attitude that the salesperson is important. Most I've worked for have one or two going for them, but most also consider the sales people a necessary evil, which I'm happy to say Rascal doesn't, at least not often. Not to mention that the money was too good to leave for a long time, of course that came to a screeching halt in the last couple years, so for many reasons I'm going home.
Yes I was born here, and grew up about 20-25 miles away, but then we moved to Fullerton, CA and ever since, that's been my home town.
The good news is that I may be able to continue working with Rascal in Calif., I may be able to work with some of the VA hospitals in the Los Angeles area. So with luck I'll continue, the new contract will give us the 3 wheel scooters to sell the VA's and it'll be a gold mine out there.  We'll see, right now I have to wind things up here, get moved, find an office or warehouse, and then we'll see...

Do you need a scooter, or powerchair, or know someone who does?

I've received several questions as to if this is my personal blog. Yes it is. I do sell Rascals, and the blog is here to talk scooters, selling scooters, owners of scooters, and anything else I want to talk about.  Even more important to introduce myself and give you the opportunity to contact me IF YOU NEED, OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO NEEDS a scooter, powerchair, lift, or anything else that Rascal and I can sell you. I've, for some unknown reason, been tiptoeing around the fact that I'm a salesman, and sell for a living. So, now it's out of the bag let me put it plainly, if you need a scooter, powerchair, or anything else, email me at lmurray@citlink.net...

Selling Scooters

I just want to mention that I sell mostly, but NOT only, to the VA hospitals. I also sell to those who need a scooter or something else, but are not Veterans. In these cases sometimes Medicare or Medicaid may pay, all or part of the cost. But usually the buyer pays, sometimes with private insurance, more often in cash, or by check, or credit card.  There may also be financing available.
Many people are concerned about what they perceive as high cost. I'm the first to admit Rascal's, and all other scooters for that matter, are not cheap.  But what of value is? I always say that whatever it is, if you don't need it, whether it's a dollar or ten thousand, it costs too much. But, if you need it, really need it, that's different.
Rascal Insurance Services can be a great deal of help. If you think that your insurance would pay for your scooter, give me a call and I will come out, if you're in upstate NY and do the evaluation. If elsewhere I will get in touch with Rascal and arrange for another rep to help you.  I've copied the Insurance Services Faqs from the Rascal website below, I did put in my phone number.

Frequently Answered Questions

We've put together a list of the most commonly asked questions from our customers. Please feel free to email me with any additional questions.

1. What portion of the cost does Medicare* pay?
If you qualify, Medicare may cover up to 80% of the allowable cost, and your supplemental insurance may pay the remaining 20%. In most cases, our customers pay little to nothing* for their powerchairs or scooters.

2. What kind of doctors can qualify me for a powerchair or scooter?
Any doctor that is familiar with your medical condition can complete the paperwork for power mobility, with the exception of a Podiatrist, Psychiatrist, or a Chiropractor.

3. Will my doctor select a powerchair or scooter?
Your doctor will work with our Rascal Insurance Services Team to determine the model that is most appropriate for your medical needs.

4. How do I get an evaluation?
A knowledgeable Mobility Consultant will work with you and assess your needs. In most cases, prior to delivery of your vehicle your mobility consultant will conduct an environmental and safety inspection and complete a pre-qualification application that includes information about your health history and life style. Simply call to schedule an appointment at your convenience.

*Medicare or private insurance may cover the entire purchase price of a power mobility vehicle. Little or no out-of-pocket expense is based on Medicare paying 80% and secondary insurance paying the remaining 20% of the cost. You may not be eligible for these benefits.
